Cleveland School Rotary Club Participates in Stop Hunger Now Project for Haiti

If you’re in the Garner/Clayton area and would like to join our efforts in providing relief for the people of Haiti, we’ll be joining the Area 4 Clubs of the Garner/Clayton area in Stop Hunger Now, a project that will ultimately provide 40,000 meals for needy families in Haiti.

Taking place THIS Thursday, January 28th at Rainbow Lanes on HWY 40/42 West in Clayton from 6-9pm, over 200 Club Members and their families and friends will gather to put these meals together.

See this fantastic interview with Clayton Rotary Club President, Leigh Hudson, as he talks about the Stop Hunger Now effort with the folks at NBC 17 and MyNC.com:

According to Wired Science Magazine Online and the USGS, the country of Haiti will experience aftershocks of at least a 5.0 magnitude within the next 30 days. Your help needs to continue even after all the hoopla surrounding the initial quake begins to subside. Please continue to pray & consider donating to a reputable charitable cause.

What’s Been Going on With Cleveland School Rotary?

Well…in a nutshell…quite a bit!

This fall we had the pleasure of several very insightful visitors who each presented to our Club on a myriad of topics – from a team of West Johnston High School Students to the District Governor to a representative from Johnston County Partnership for Children.  At Thanksgiving we adopted a family providing them with a complete Thanksgiving meal and at Christmas we adopted a family providing them with an opportunity to have presents in this tough economic time.

We’ve also been involved in a HUGE fundraising effort – “Doughnuts for Dictionaries” – that will provide 600 dictionaries to children in 3 area Elementary Schools with the final presentation to schools next week.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the Rotary year.

Unfortunately, with all this GOOD going on, we’ve been a bit behind in getting this GOOD NEWS out to the community.  In 2010, we plan to change all that by updating our Fan Page, our Twitter account, and this Blog more frequently thanks to the assistance of the wife of Club President Mike Sullivan, Mrs. Lisa Sullivan.  Please bear with us as we make that transition.

“Service Above Self” that’s Rotary International’s motto and we are proud to deliver!

We’re Here!

The Cleveland School Rotary of Johnston County/Garner, North Carolina is proud to announce our BRAND NEW blog as we build our web presence.  In the coming week’s and months this site will be informational, engaging, & interactive.  Our hope is that this becomes THE first source of Club information for not only our Club members but the local and global communities we serve as a whole.

Starting this weekend, you will find us on Twitter, Facebook, and of course, here.  We’ll have more to post soon but for now, take a gander at our site and let us know what you think!

Remember, Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self”.  Make a difference today by doing something in service to those around you.

Until next time,
